What is a bad mood?
Moods are not emotions; they are simply how we feel. The way we feel affects how we act. If we are feeling happy, we will want to do things that make us happy. If we are feeling sad, we will want to do things that make us feel better. When our moods are low, we may think that things are so bad that we can’t get out of bed, we may not eat, or we may cry and lash out at others.
When we experience bad moods, we often blame ourselves for being so unhappy and say things to ourselves like, “I am worthless,” “I am too stupid,” “I should have been born rich,” or “I deserve this.”
What causes bad moods?
Bad moods are an unavoidable part of life. We all go through periods of feeling down and not knowing why. Sometimes we can’t figure out what causes our moods to change. Other times we know exactly why our moods are low and we are unhappy: we are sick, we are tired, we are stressed, we have no money, we have to go to school, we have to work, we are worried about our future, we are afraid about the world, we are worried about the economy, we are afraid of our family, we are worried about our health, we are angry about something that happened, we are worried about the future, we are sad about someone we love, we are worried about getting older, we are worried about dying, we are upset that we did not do something, we are sad that we are not doing something, we are worried about the future, we are sad that we are not doing something, we are worried that we are not doing anything.
How can you help to stop bad moods?
Sometimes we can’t control our moods and we can’t fix them. If you are having a bad day, that’s okay. Don’t worry, you will feel better.
Try to avoid thinking about your moods all the time. Thinking about your moods will only make them worse.
If you are having a good day, try to focus on that. Remember the things that made you feel good and the things that made you smile. You might be able to figure out what is causing your moods to change.
Some people are prone to depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders. If you are one of them, don’t ignore your symptoms or pretend that they don’t exist. Talk to your doctor and ask for help.
Don't forget to give yourself some pampering. Try to take time for yourself every day. Relaxing and having fun can be very good for your mood.
Try to exercise, if that is something that makes you happy. Exercise releases endorphins in your brain that are good for your moods.
Keep an eye on the news. Watch the news or read newspapers to learn about the world around you. You might be shocked and surprised and that might make you feel better.
If you are a parent, teach your children to cope with their moods. Children sometimes react negatively when they see their parents in bad moods. If you don’t deal with your own moods, it is harder to deal with those of your child.
Some people have mood swings that can be triggered by certain foods. If you notice that foods like chocolate or sugar trigger your moods, try to find another way to enjoy food.
